Whether 2 players can play offline or online or both depends strictly on the game being played. Games exist that will allow you play co op online. There are many more games that will not allow 2 players on the same console either off or online

yes. you go to either multiplayer or co op depending on what mode you want to play and then you click the splitscreen button on the bottom of the menu. i am a unicorn

In single player mode, its impossible to play with another person. But in the multiplayer you can play up to 10 people online.
