the hair probably doesn't work because you didn't download the meshes that go with them. and if you want to see your custom sims around the neighborhood then move them into a house in your neighborhood

I will tell you the easiest way to install sims 2 objects. Go to modthesims2.com and download their Q express installer. Download it to anywhere you will be able to find it. Then go to where you downloaded it and double click on the set up there and follow the instructions wizard. After that you can use this tool to put in multiple files in your sims 2 game in seconds! Make sure to read the tutorial about the installer on the website though!!
