What are good starting tips for Minecraft?

Home Tips

• Set your home on a small patch of water. If you are on fire, type /home and you will be saved
• If you want 2 houses, /sethome on one of them and make one near a warp point

Etiquette

• Be friendly with the admins and moderators, especially when you start out. They will probably give you items to start out such as house plots, pickaxes, iron and cobblestone

Shops and Shopping Tips

• Try to be a frequent shopper with one person. You will probably receive discounts because of this
• Look around for the best price

Locking Tips

• Lock all of your doors, furnaces and chests.

MCMMO Tips

• Mine out all of the ores you may find, whether you need them or not.
• Train yourself in fighting with the axe. It is more effective and cost-efficent than training in fighting with a sword or bow and arrows.
• Train yourself in acrobatics near a [Heal] sign. After each jump, right click the said sign

Mining Tips

• Go down to the bedrock layer of a public mine. Mine out all the exposed Redstone ore using a iron pickaxe

Mob Drop Tips

• When it is morning, walk around and pick up as much arrows, bones and feathers you can
• If you are fighting a mob at night, and about to die, quickly log out. Wait for about 5 minutes before going online again.

When you are 'born' in a minecraft world, it's good to automatically try to find trees and get wood. Wood is very important in minecraft. They create tools, crafting tables, chests, and even your house! After you collect a good amount of wood, (remember to use an axe) find a good space to make your house. Search for some pigs, cows, and chicken so you can have some food to eat. You can also create a bed to sleep at night. After you've created some of you're house, you should go mining for coal, iron, and cobble, of course. Then make a furnace to cook your meat. While doing all of these, for the first couple of nights, I'd recommend going on peaceful mode since you haven't fully constructed you're house.
