There are a number of jobs Sims can have. Such as cheif, crook, scientist, video game tester, etc. Your Sims don't really 'do' anything at their work [Like the children who go to school, only they bring home homework], but are gone for a long period of time, in exchange for a little money. If you increase the skill that is required at your job, you can most likely get promotions. There are also little ineractive tibits that have pieces of random information inwhich you can interact with, giving you either the upside, or down.
There are 10 jobs in the Sims 2.
Yes the better jobs are only available to Sims that have graduated, Sims that haven't will only be able to get the regular low paid jobs.
You can't make the pets get jobs, only the sims can get the jobs.
