One of the primary disadvantages of being a female - as opposed to a male - spy is the fact that sex is used in her work much more than a man's. One of the most popular ways for countries to get information is to install the female spy as the girlfriend of a man at the top.

A woman who is not willing to use her body in her work would probably not be suitable for the job.

Other than that, however, there is little that differs between the work of male and female spies.

One of the occupations most used as spies during WWII was the Entertainment Industry. Such luminaries as Julia Childs, Hedy LaMarr, and Marlene Dietreich, as well as possibly Leslie Howard were intelligence officers. Their position as famous people who could gain access to places that ordinary people could not made them extremely valuable.

Helen MacInnes, who was a member of MI5 during WWII became a best selling writer after the war, who used her experiences and knowledge in her many novels.
