Input devices are classified according to the working and displacement.

In working it has further two parts: Analog and Digital

In working It has two variations: Relative and positional

1. Analog devices are those which collect information in continuous form. These are transducer which convert energy from one form to another. All these devices need analog to digital converter.

The various analog devices are: Mouse,joystick,voice entry system, trackball, paddles.

2. Digital devices are those which collect information in discrete form. some digital devices are: Keyboard,mouse,image scanner,digitizer,light pen,touch panels.

3. Positional device is one which is capable of selecting random position directly. eg

keyboard,touch panel,digitizer,voice entry system etc.

4. Relative device is one which in which next position is selected with respect to the current location.e.g Mouse,joystick,trackball.
