Vampires, being mythical, can hate whatever their creators and the authors of such tales decide they should. It has become a tradition that garlic and sunlight are not high on their agenda of things to like. Crosses, because most writers of the genre, have been 'christians', have also been on the vampires must avoid list. Had the authors been of a different religion the symbols may have been different.
