What do you do with the skulls you find in halo 3 do you have to carry them around all the time?

You can carry it around all the time if you want, but you don't need to. once you got the hold of one, you can activate it by pressing x on the campaign page and the ones that you've found will be glowing. press on them and they will low brighter to show that they are in effect.

After you pick up a skull in Halo 3 you unlock a cheat and an achievement for the game. You do not need to carry them to the end of the level to unlock the achievement or the cheat you can drop them once you pick them up.

It really depends on what skull it is. Some skulls make playing more amusing but most of the skulls are meant to make the game more challenging. Each Halo 3 skull will get you gamescore points and an achievement. If you want the skull on press X when the game is loading and click it to turn on and vice-versa to turn off. Once you have 13 skulls you can get the full Hayabusa Armor. Also if you complete all 49 achievements in Halo 3 and find all the skulls you can get a non-usable Katana Sword.
