When you've collected enough Benevolessence to see the Fyggs bloom, beams of dark energy shoot up from the ground. These are sent by Corvus, and one smashes through the throne room in the Realm of the Almighty, hitting Zenus. Zenus isn't destroyed, but split into 10 different pieces, aspects of his original self. These 10 are 10 of the 12 regular Grotto bosses, some of them allude to it, but Fowleye confirms it.
