Hojo then begins experimentation on both cloud and zack, who could not resist him. He wanted to make clones of sephiroth. What hojo did not realize is that the experiment will have different effects based on the will of the subject. Someone strong willed like Zack is not affected and escapes. However, Cloud is put into a coma like state. (His will is not that strong). Zack then drags Cloud with hopes to return to Midgar and start a business. Zack changes his and cloud's clothing into that of SOLDIER garb and tells him stories of his adventures in SOLDIER and his experiences. Before they get back though, Shinra sends its infantry to hunt down the escaped Zack, who they kill. Cloud appeared dead due to his coma and so was left untouched by the army. Cloud awakens to see Zack die and tells him to live for the both of them. Cloud takes his buster sword and journey's to Midgar alone. He is found by tifa at the train station after 7 years and joins AVALANCHE. He lives on with Sephiroth's cells in him, causing sephiroth to use him like a puppet. Furthermore, he does not recall anything that happened and therefore thinks that the stories Zack tells him are his own experiences, making him claim he was a SOLDIER.
