Ten, there has always been 10 prestiges. In CoD: World at War and CoD: MW2 prestiging will give you some additional bonuses including more custom class slots in online play. also in all call of duty there have been 10 prestiges

After entering Prestige mode, you get a different symbol for each level of prestige and you get more create-a-class slots. You also unlock more challenges that, upon completion, unlock new titles.

there are 70 levels to gain in the game after these 70 you can start over which is the prestige mode. you start back at level one, have to gain all new guns but you keep your titles and emblems but everything else goes away.
