Well, The Sims 3 isn't out yet. It is set to be released on June 2nd (in America).I would imagine that the Sims 3 will be better than the Sims 2. There is more to choose from such as visiting anyone's house, easy to decorate furniture, a "seamless" neighborhood (no loading screens), different sizes for sims (very skinny, muscular, heavier, very fat, etc), and the ability to chance ANY part of their outfit (shoes can be chosen now). The graphics are better, and the gameplay is easier.
Also, sims now have five personality traits. The traits they have carry through into gameplay. Example: a sensitive sim would probably take everything personal (I'm guessing this would mean the sim would have a negative sign a lot when talking to someone) and a lazy sim will not like to clean up their messes.
Overall, I'm guessing that the Sims 3 will be a lot better and have much more to offer.

The Sims 2 is better than the first. It has better graphics, a wider selection of options for creating sims and the closer camera angles. It's brill, but it's a lot of hassle. As in sims 1 you just have a click here a click there there finished . You do have a wide variety of choices on sims 1, the sims creator. You get to paint your own design and logos on sims 1 . And on the sims creator ,webcam yourself with a photo load the photo, and your face will appear on the sim. But sim 2 is also good, you can camcord it and ...well you get the point! The Sims 2 also has aging, wants and fears, which are huge gameplay improvments.

well pretty good question you see ea doesn't allow Lot of Sim games for ps2 because you can control the Sims in Sims 2 easy like the Sims 1 you have to have that yellow line tell what to do and same thing with Sims 3 so i suggest sell the Sims 2 game buy the Sims 1 or the Sims bursting out or i you have a laptop aka PC witch stands for portable computer you can get any Sim game and you can have babies and they age oh the Sims 1 babies just grow up to kids that is all hope this helps i mostly only know about the Sims bursting out the Sims 1 and Sims 2 the Sims busting out is little better than Sims 2 but the Sims 1 is better than both remember this is for PlayStation 2
