To be really honest, there isn't really much benefit other than being entertained. However, there are certain games out there with the intention of teaching and some games that can offer benefits when not obvious. Certain games like fighting games, RPGs, shooters, racing, tactical combat (Ex. Call of Duty x), puzzlers, can teach people especially the teen crowd tactical and critical thinking. In order to advance in such games the player has to think their next move or think on the fly in order to advance. This could help people in problem solving and what to do in certain situations. There also games specifically engineered to teach the brain. However, these games more or less specifically target cognitive centers in the brain and can also help problem solving and tactical thinking skills. Fighting games and the like can teach the same benefit but the player in question may often be way into the game to receive any benefit, or the player may pick up skills without realizing it and not use such skills. This of course is merely my opinion so if anyone has a more definitive or perhaps scientific explanation please share. +
