It's usually your speakers - especially if it happens more than once. This is caused by a lack of electromagnetic shielding, and when your fridge kicks in or someone in the apartment upstairs turns on a light, you might hear little pops and clicks. This can also happen with the little built in speaker inside the computer case. It's annoying, but is not causing any harm to your computer.

The other cause for a 'pop' inside your computer is a very bad one... It might be a capacitor exploding! Turn off your computer and look at all of the capacitors (they're the cylindrical things sticking up all over the place). If any of them are bulging or have black 'burn-looking' marks on them, they have exploded and your motherboard will need to be replaced.

I was getting a ramdom POPPING sound coming from my new computer. I discovered it was coming from the anti-virus program Kaspersky notifying you of a successful update or other event occurring in the program. Go to Control Panel / Sounds and Audio Devices; select the Sound tab; scroll down to "Kaspersky anti-virus", and it will list the sounds corresponding to specific events. Several (3 that I know of) have a POP sound assigned to those events. You can remove the sound allocated to the events.

PS. I changed the Windows closing sound on my computer at home to a "ding" - rather than the "cord" because the cord sound made a lot of noise late at night when I was turning off the computer. A dine let me know there was a successful close without making a lot of noise.
