What is the best gun in Halo 3?

In my opinion the best guns are the brute shot, sniper rifle, shotgun, and the plasma pistol. But most people would normally take a battle rifle and shotgun.

A plasma pistol???????????????????????????????????? NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would personally use a shotgun for close range combat and a SMG for mid range combat.

The plasma pistol isn't as bad as you'd think, but i think the first guy meant to say plasma rifle

the fuel rod gun, but unfortunately, there are very few of them in campaign mode, it is not on any multiplayer maps, and can only be forged onto a few maps
