Edit: In America, a Japanese game called "Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic" was modified to use Mario characters and called "Super Mario Bros. 2." This game was not released in Japan originally. In Japan, a game was released also called "Super Mario Bros. 2." It was considered to difficult for the American audience, and was therefore not originally released in America. When it was, it was called "Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels." Lost Levels is very similar to the original super Mario Bros, except more difficult. Super Mario Bros. 2 is quite different from the rest of the series, due to it not originally being a Mario game.
