What is the story line in Fallout New Vegas?

According to Wikipedia, "Fallout 3 picks up 30 years after the 'setting' of Fallout 2 and 200 years after the nuclear war that devastated the game's world. In the game the player is a vault-dweller whose father goes missing shortly after his or her 19th birthday, and who must venture out into the Wasteland around Washington, D.C. to find him."

There are several endings to the game. When you arrive at Project Purity with Sentinel Lyons and Liberty Prime, you can choose to do one of several possible endings:

1.) Enter yourself and activate the purifier, giving clean water to the wasteland, but dying in the process.

2.) Enter yourself and poison the water, then activate the machine and die.

3.) Convince Sentinel Lyons to enter the chamber, whereupon she activates the machine and dies.

4.) Wait for the machine to overload.

These all have an affect on the closing cinematic, but you will only be able to play Broken Steel (assuming you have it) if you perform option #1.

the story hasn't queit been decided yet from what iv seen on ign.com but it appears to be more in line with fallout 1 and 2 from the reports but iv never played 1 or 2 so id have to take the designers words for it lol.

Your character was a courier; they were shot in the head while delivering a platnium chip to Mr House. They survived the incident and set out to track down the man who shot them, and end up either killing him or letting him live. Then they travel to the Legion's camp to destroy/activate an army of Securitrons. The courier then recruits/destroys many minor factions fo an upcoming battle at Hoover Dam. Then they join the NCR/Legion/Mr House/Yes Man in capturing/defending Hoover Dam.

Mr House - the enigmatic leader of New Vegas, has plans that have been over 200 years in the making. You can aid him to preserve New Vegas' independence with an unstoppable army of robots, or you can oust him and control the city yourself.
