A good spy won't ask, "Hey, building a bomb?" Instead, a good spy would ask, "I hear something's about to happen from the higher ups. Something big. Are you in the know?" The foolish man would either divulge the sought-after info, or it would be a lost cause because either the man doesn't know, or he isn't telling. Short of real life interrogation, trickery is the only option.
He must have the ability to tactfully divert a situation away from trouble. "Are you a spy?" Asks an inquisitive enemy. "What are you asking me for?" "We've read your inbox. You're not a moderator, you know." And sometimes, a good spy knows when the situation is out of his control. Stalling them with chatting and excuses, the good spy would gather as much last-minute info as possible before being banned.
And of course, the ability to keep track of multiple identities. The good spy has: 1) a pseudonym, 2) a false birthday, and 3) NO CONNECTION WHATSOEVER as far as the spied-upon people are concerned with the first agency.
Conflicts eventually will arise. It's not a matter of if, but a matter of when and how to resolve them. The double agent must never be known even by fellow members of the first team, lest they call out to him in a PvP match for mercy or some other such nonsense.
If the spy is caught, the identity is thrown away, as a snake sheds it's skin. Now useless, it may be a while before another agent can be inserted into their ranks, and most boards will have IP address bans active, effectively chopping the head off of that same snake.
For this to work, it will take dedication, intelligence, quick thinking, and slick maneuvering. Without those, the operation is over before it has begun.
It will take a while before useful info is gathered, as rapports must be made before information is freely given. The ability to show dedication to one who does not earn it is not generosity, but rather foolishness, and fools we can defeat without such extreme measures
