Christopher Sly is a character in Shakespeare's play "The Taming of the Shrew." He is the target of a trick by a group of nobles who find him drunken and sleeping in a tavern. They decide to play a practical joke on him by convincing him that he is a wealthy lord who has been in a long sleep, intending to amuse themselves at his expense and to highlight themes of identity and deception in the play. This trick sets the stage for the main plot, where issues of social status and transformation are explored.
While Christopher Sly is sleeping in "The Taming of the Shrew," a group of noblemen discovers him passed out outside a tavern. They decide to play a trick on him by dressing him in fine clothing and convincing him that he is a wealthy lord who has been dreaming of his true identity. When Sly awakens, he is bewildered and gradually drawn into the elaborate ruse, setting the stage for the play's events. This scenario serves as a framing device for the main story of the play.
A couple of possible words are ruse or wile
Christopher Sly is not married, but he is duped into thinking that a Pageboy dressed up like a woman is his wife.
This line is from the Induction of Taming of the Shrew. The Lord has just come upon the drunken Sly lying passed out in the gutter, where we have just seen him collapse after staggering out of the pub. Monstrous="like a monster". Beast=animal. Swine=pig. The Lord is saying Sly is an animal like a monster who lies in the gutter like a pig. The Lord is trying to paint Christopher Sly as deserving of the Pirate trick that he intends to "practise", so he attacks him with theatrical rage and revulsion to turn the audience against him.
"A shark" is a person that is cunning, sly and tries to deceive/trick others.
