So far there is no concrete answer, but it is theorized that while squalls are caused my a sudden Microburst over the water, A microburst is a sudden downward column of air rushing towards the ground and spreading outward in all directions, they carry a lot of momentum with them as they fall, and have are known for causing fatal plane crashes.
