pendulum spring tuning fork quartz crystal
Standard Tunning.
Album version is tuned down to d-flat
One simple experiment to prove the mechanical nature of sound is by using a tuning fork. When a tuning fork is struck and held against a table, the vibrations produced can be felt as the table vibrates. This demonstrates how sound is a result of mechanical vibrations traveling through a medium, in this case air, to reach our ears.
A tuning fork primarily possesses mechanical energy in the form of potential energy when it is at rest and kinetic energy when it vibrates. When struck, the mechanical energy is converted into sound energy, producing audible sound waves. Additionally, there may be a small amount of thermal energy generated due to friction during the vibrations.
The ratchet can turn one way only as the pawl stops it from tuning the other way. :)
