Hello, I recently ordered 2 hardy azalea plants, when opening the box they came in, both had the stems broken to the roots which were wrapped in plastic, will they still grow or are they dead?

I returned the 2 items back to the return address and apparently for the first time i've sent things back it didn't arrive there because i've gotten two letters from PCH telling me i have to pay for the items as if they've never received them.I have and sent them a copy of when i sent them back on April 10th 2020,so why am i getting bugged by this.This goings on is precisely why i stopped doing business with PCH
