Metal Slimes can first be found in the Quarantomb. They do not appear that frequently, just run around avoiding other monsters, and you'll soon see one.
If you are lucky enough to find a metal slime:
Use Metal Slash, Falcon Slash, MetaLicker etc. often because normal attacks miss a lot and do only 1 point of damage (unless it's a critical hit). I often use Metal Slash with a Falcon Blade to do up to 4 points of damage in one move.
If you have Thunder Thrust or Hatchet Man, by all means use it.
And if you have a warrior on your team and he/she gets set up to do his/her coup de grâce, use it!

It depends on which slime you want. If you want a metal slime you can go to the Quarantomb. If you want a Metal Medley, go to the Bad cave. If you want a Liquid Metal Slime, you can find them at the Bowhole. All at them appear on the 'Slime Plateau' above Angel Falls, as well as Liquid Metal Kings. Those can be found in grottoes, as can Platinum King Jewels.

No, there is no ability to help find metal slimes, just keep doing grottos until you reach grottos lvl 55+, MKS starts to appear (and a lot!) by that point.
