The Atari 2600, although very old and no longer sold in stores, is still reasonably easy and cheap to find because they were very well-made and built to last. You won't find any in department stores, but specialty game shops, yard sales, and flea markets are all good places to find an Atari 2600 or Atari cartridges. If you're having trouble finding one in your area, eBay is guaranteed to have some Atari 2600 systems up for auction.
Of course not, that makes as much sense as PS3 games working on a PSOne. Backwards compatability can only do so much. Think about it; if 7800 games would work on your old 2600, why would you need a 7800 in the first place? But in relation to your question, 2600 games are compatible with the 7800 console.
The earliest video game (or rather, interactive electronic game) was a missile simulator created on a cathode-ray tube in 1947. The first home console was the Magnavox Odyssey, the production of which started in 1966. It was released in its final form in 1972. That would depend on your definition of the console. WAaaaaaay back in the late 70s there were PONG type games that were the first. These gaming devices hooked up to your TV's Ariel antenna input and just had two dial type controllers on a little box. But, the first gaming console that I remember having a large library of cartridge games was the ATARI 2600.
There were multiple video games systems that were released that bombed because people would rather spend money at the arcade. These early game systems had pre downloaded games and you had to only play what few games came with your system. The Atari was the first system that had games sold separately.

For entertainment, recreational and educational purposes.
Hardware wise you would need a good computer and Programming software. If you are looking to make Console games then you would have to have a license to do so from the make of the console, you would also need to have a good understanding of the console that you are making games for.
OneGuy's answer: pc games ARE more EXPENSIVE i would suggest you go for console games if tight on money xxx My answer: It depends
It depends on which console the games are for, and what condition they are in.
The Atari 2500 was an unreleased prototype. The released version, the Atari 2600, came out in 1977, and the first game would have been Combat, which came with the console. The 2600 wasn't actually called the "2600" until 1982, before then it was the VCS or Video Computer System.
No they would not be able to be read by the PS2 console
no i would not say that but it has been possible but it was not as much fun
There is no PS4 so they would not purchase a fake console
