If your talking about Princess Toadstool, it's just a different name for Princess Peach. Or if your talking about Toad, he is an anthropomorphic mushroom a white head with red spots.

Super Mario 64 was the first game to identify Princess Toadstool as "Peach" outside of Japan.
The 1st time Mario met Princess Peach was in Super Mario Bros. for the NES. She was originally called Princess Toadstool.
peach didn't exist until super Mario bros 3. Before that it was princess toadstool and no Mario didn't like her either.

For a reason nobody really knows, Nintendo of America changed her name to Princess Toadstool. In Super Mario 64 was the first use of using Peach for her name. Now her full name is Princess Peach Toadstool.

You don't unlock him, he's already a playable charecter, you just select him on the chareter list, there's: mario, luigi, toad, and princess toadstool (she's called that before super mario 64).
