Why is RuneScape for 12 and up?

Jagex thinks people younger than 12 don't have the responsibility to decide when to become a member, therefore you are not allowed to create an account or play the game when you are younger than twelve years of age. ya and also for ppl who wine to much i start runescape when i was 5 years old and they just brag and don't know what is what real carefully.. i actually mean that they just could talk about it on and on everywere

Wander099: Well, I think a lot of it has to do with safety. There are a lot of controls designed to ensure that online predators can't harm children (like the completely insane censoring), but children below the age of 13 are still more vulnerable. I don't think Jagex has any issue with addiction because clearly, getting children addicted is in their interest (whether they'd admit it or not). A lot of sites have the 13+ restriction, and I think that's reasonable. Children so young should be supervised heavily when online and parents don't want them on sites they don't approve of. Of course, this doesn't stop kids from lying about their age when signing up...

And to the last editor, it is not nice to delete others' answers and then put an answer in that is useless and advocates bad behaviour (lying). I have restored what was lost.

Another answer: RuneScape puts certain restrictions in place to fulfill legal requirements. This, of course, is related with some of the other reasons mentioned, especially protecting the safety of children.
