Aubergine and reds look good. Any Autumn color would coordinate well also.

according to the color wheel- gray, but it really looks more like mud when done with paint

Deep purple I'm onlt 12 but if it helps i watch alot of 60 minute makovers and they said olive and deep purple go together xxx
Depending on the pigments from wich the paint was manufactured and the quality of the paint, the results may vary. Most probably you will obtain a brown hue.
