Silverpoint is a drawing technique that involves using a thin metal wire, typically made of silver, to create marks on a specially prepared surface, usually coated with a ground of bone ash or chalk. The silver wire leaves a delicate, fine line that can range in tone from light gray to dark brown as it oxidizes over time. This medium was popular during the Renaissance for its precision and subtlety, allowing artists to achieve detailed and intricate drawings. Unlike other drawing materials, silverpoint requires a careful approach, as it cannot be easily erased or altered.

The only primary ash color is a shade of gray known as "ash gray." It is typically characterized by its neutral tone, which can range from light to dark shades, resembling the color of ashes. Unlike traditional primary colors like red, blue, and yellow, ash gray is not a color from which other colors can be mixed, but it serves as a foundational neutral in various color palettes.
When hair has lightened to a level 6, the underlying pigment is typically warm, often showing orange tones. To achieve a neutral color at this level, a toner with a blue-violet base is ideal, as blue neutralizes orange and violet helps counteract any remaining warmth. Using a toner like a blue or ash-based shade can help achieve that desired neutral result.
