There really are only two reasons (in most cases) why your pool water would be green. The first reason could in fact be that there were metals in the pool -- as the prescribed pool experts probably suggested -- but the other reason could be related to the level of chlorine you have circulating throughout your pool. Nine times out of ten, a green pool is a telltale sign of algae growth, and your pool either needs to be shocked -- with a *professional* quality chlorine/bromine shock -- or your filtration system needs to be examined. If you're a new pool-owner, a "shock" refers to a high dosage of sanitizer (i.e., chlorine). Algae could be growing in your pool for a number of reasons. Your sanitizer levels may be low, your pool cover may be generating too much heat, thus creating bacterial algae growth, or in some rare occurance, nearby trees or foiliage may be dropping into your water. ALso, if your pool water is not circulating properly, your pool may have "dead" spots: areas where water doesn't move. Still water = bacteria = algae. Usually no matter how green the pool is, algae can be cleared up with a good shock. However, if you really do have metals in your pool (i.e., phosphate or something) the metal-out should clear it up, depending on the quality of the product. Good luck! Filtration, filtration, filtration and proper pool chemsitry. Your conditioner could also be low. Your filter could be dirty. Many combinations of the above could be the answer.
