It is not recommended. I have read that some doctors have allowed it after long term placement but I have had 6 and had all but one removed during the summer when my health is best so that I could swim. If you do decide to swim, talk with your surgeon first. A public pool would be a definite no. You can swim with a implanted port that is under the skin but depending on what your line is used for this may not be an alternative. I use daily TPN and it is not something that can be done with that type of access.
