How do you go from an already chlorinated pool to a saltwater pool?

A salt water system is a pool with salt in it that generates it's own chlorine. A cell is plumbed into the system right before the water hits the pool. This cell is attached to a control box which tells the cell to generate chlorine from the salt. The only other consideration is differing metals in the water... which means if you have a metal (stainless steel, aluminum) ladder, you may want to swap it out with a plastic one.

There is no conversion, salt systems are based on chlorine as the sanitizer. In order to start the process you need to add salt to your pool in order to achieve 2700-3400 ppm. When you buy your chlorine generator it will instruct you as to how much you will need according to your pool volume. The best thing is you can still use shock and/or chlorine in addition should you have a mess to clean up in the spring, like I did this year. Good luck.

All you have to do is ad the required amount of salt and install a saltwater chlorinator into the line Depending on the setup you put in you will get instructions on water balance etc.
