How do you use a solar cover on a swimming pool?

Lay your solar cover, bubble side down on top of the pool

Just want to add, we bought a solar cover for our above ground Intex pool. The cover completely covers the pool and keeps the pool water very warm (which is the purpose). However, you need to double your chlorine to keep from getting algae. It's almost like having a spa. When I lift the solar cover, there is condensation on the cover and steam coming out. So you need to really watch your chlorine levels.

There are two main types of solar covers for Swimming Pools. One is a solar ring which lays on the pool and has magnets around the edges to easily hook two or more together. A common brand name is the Solar Sun Ring.

Another option is a solar blanket that would work much like a rain cover or tarp at a Baseball stadium. It would be rolled up on a solar reel and then unrolled across the pool when the pool was not in use.

Basically, you just put the cover on the pool exactly where you want it to be. Then, just roll the reel above the pool exactly where you want it to sit long term. Then, just use the clips from the reel to clip the cover (this will puncture holes in the cover in order to clip). Once it is clipped, it just rolls up very easily. It is important to think ahead of where exactly you want the reel to be as wherever you clip it is where it will stay.

You can buy an opaque roller over-cover from your pool shop, but just a tarp would do the job too. It is just to keep it out of direct sunlight, so that the heat does not build up between the layers of blanket and 'burn' it.
