Is adding one half gallon of acid per week normal for a salt pool?

No. Salt pools have high PH due to it being a by-product when salt gets broken down into chlorine. It creates a gas with PH. I usually put about four finger's worth to a half jug a week. Some weeks take more and some less. Test adequetly
