You haven't mentioned if the pool is a vinyl liner, fiberglass or gunite. What you will do is ruin the surface of the pool. Plan on replacing a vinyl liner, re-plastering a gunite pool and I'm not sure what effect dirt would have on a fiberglass. That being said: Drain and blowout all water in all the pipes and seal with threaded plugs. Remove the pump(s), filter and heater - all the equipment and drain and clean them. Remove any pool lights and turn off the electrical to the pool.
Answeror to avoid destroying the pool if you think you may want it later simply install a solid safety cover. balance the water and winterize the equipment check and adjust pH every few monthsRather then using dirt to fill it in use sand with just a layer of dirt on top for plants or grass

A person can fill an in-ground pool with cement in order to close it forever. People tend to make this decision when they no longer wish to care for the pool.
It depends... how long, wide, and deep it is.
It would fill about 91,000 residential in-ground swimming pools.
No, to fill the pool just place the hose into the swimming pool and make sure not to over fill it. Hatawa
Yes, you typically need to remove the concrete from an inground pool to fill it in properly. This ensures that the area can be filled with appropriate materials that will compact well and prevent future settling or sinking. Additionally, removing the concrete helps avoid potential drainage issues and allows for better soil management. However, in some cases, it might be possible to leave the concrete in place, depending on local regulations and the specific fill method used.

To fix an unlevel 16x32 pool, start by draining the water to prevent further damage. Next, identify the low spots around the pool's perimeter and excavate the soil underneath to create a level base. Use sand or gravel to fill any low areas, compacting it firmly to ensure stability. Finally, refill the pool and check for levelness, making any necessary adjustments before adding water back in.
You don't "remove it" You fill it in with dirt and pack it firmly.
