First of all travelling on the River Styx is not to way of an island, but instead the Underworld to where your soul will dwell after life is over in the physical realm. To get there, you have to use the two gold coins (that are placed upon your eyes at the time of your funeral ceremonies right before you are burned) to pay your fare to Charon, the boatman who takes your soul on the ride across the River Styx to your destined point in the Underworld, either being the Elyssus Fields or Hades, whichever the Gods have decided you deserve to be.

There are three attacks, one in each set of attacks : a rock falls, a flaming skull sweeps through, and a river monster lunges upward into the boat. Although you can avoid being knocked from the back of the boat by staying near the front, one of the falling rocks can easily knock you out of the front of the boat.

The most straightforward way is to move forward or backward depending on where the previous rock landed, then duck or jump the flaming skull, and definitely jump up when the river monster attacks. You will do this 4 times.

Also, if you have credits for the poptropica store you can buy the minimizer and shrink yourself. All you will have to do is jump when the alligator comes.

As you go down the river, there are usually 4 sets of the three perils : Rocks falling from the ceiling, Flaming Skulls, and River Monsters. To avoid the rocks, you can move forward or backward in the boat. To avoid the skull, you can jump or duck. To avoid the monster, you have to jump over it.

No, but the easiest way to get across is to walk to the ferryman as soon as you get on. This way, none of the rocks hit you. You will still have to jump over the skulls and the crocodiles. If you jump right after every rock falls, then you will clear the skulls. This is not perfect, and it will take some practice to get it right.
