It takes work. I have the same problem now as is the case almost every spring. I'd suggest adding algaecide (once a week), chlorine (whenever needed to maintain levels), and then No-phos (once a week). Brush all surfaces of the pool every other day. Vacumn twice a week. Backwash your filter whenever your pressure gauge tells you to...it will accumulate alot of debis if you follow this. Your pool should slowly turn around, mine is. After you have near clear water, you can just use the No-phos and it will take out the food from the water that the algae needs to survive. I missed one weekend treatment with the No-phos and I had an algae bloom, not fun. A: If the 130 reading is your conditioner level then it is too high. You'll have to pump off up to several thousand gallons of water and refill in order to dilute the conditioner level. It should be no higher than 100 ppm. Let your filter run for at least 24 hrs before adding chlorine. Add chlorine at 12.5% strength - see bottle label - add 4 gal of chlorine all at the same time - run the filter for 24/7, brush 2 - 3 times daily - the entire surface- including corners, love seats etc. If your algae bloom is severe - you may also add Yellow Treat by United Chemical. FOLLOW THE CONTAINER'S INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER. Clean your filter as needed - read the gage. You may not need the No-phos. Adjust the rest of you pool chemical levels as chlorine levels get back to 3.0 or less 00 7.6 pH, 80 -120 alkalinity. In the future, maintain your chemical levels at optimum levels and keep your filter clean and conditioner level at about 60 to 80 ppm thru the summer. k

Why does the salt water generator give false readings in salt water pool?

Take a sample to your local pool shop for all your readings of Free chlorine, Total chlorine, PH, Calcium, Alkalinity and Cyanuric Acids. Once you have a proper reading you will need to re-callobrate your chlorinater.

How can I check the alkalinity in my pool?

To check the alkalinity in your pool, you can use a test kit specifically designed for measuring alkalinity levels. Follow the instructions on the kit to obtain an accurate reading.

Do you adjust the PH first or the alkalinity first in a swimming pool?

Alkalinity first! First check to see where the total alkalinity is in PPM, then determine how many PPM change is needed to reach your target reading. Caution, I alway aim for 10 to 20 PPM below my ideal reading, because when you begin to adjust the pH, the TA will rise.

How do you get the ideal reading of chlorine in the pool?

When chlorine enters the water, it is in a form that is an active sanitizer and an oxidizer called "free chlorine". It will react with any number of contaminants in the water. When it reacts with ammonia compounds in the water, which come from bathers' perspiration and urine, it becomes "combined chlorine". In this form, chlorine is a much slower sanitizer. This form also causes chlorine odor and eye irritation. When using the 5-way strip, the difference between the free chlorine reading (pad 1) and the total chlorine reading (pad 2) is the combined chlorine reading.

Cloudy pool free chlorine is not reading stabilizer is low but pH is ok?

Add chlorine and stabilizer.

How do you get the free chlorine level down in your saltwater pool?

To give you an accurate answer, it's important to know how many gallons are in the pool, how high is your Free Available Chlorine (FAC), and what is your Combined Chlorine Reading. Is pool enclosed and protected from sun etc? Is your chlorine generator working properly? You could simply shut down the generator and test your pool everyday at the same time. Keep records of pH, Free Chlorine, Combined Chlorine, Alkalinity, etc. It's important that you maintain a proper pH at ALL TIMES.

Why pool reading no chlorine?

There could be several reasons why a pool may have no chlorine. This could be due to insufficient chlorine added to the pool, the chlorine being depleted too quickly, or the pool's filtration system not functioning properly. It's important to regularly test and maintain the chlorine levels in a pool to ensure proper sanitation.

Will it harm you if you swim in an indoor pool with the chlorine reading 8 ppm?

No

How much chlorine do you put in a 15 ft 42 in high intex above ground pool?

Purchase a good test kit for chlorine, pH and total alkalinity. Add chlorine to the pool. After about 20 minutes - time for the chlorine to circulate - test again. If no chlorine 'reading - add more chlorine. As an example a 15' x 30' plaster pool with no chlorine and with the proper amount of CYA will usually take about a gallon to bring the chlorine readings up to near required standards. REPEATED testing and the addition of chemicals will give you an idea what it takes for YOUR individual pool. Note: the same size pool next door with similar conditions may require different amounts to acquire the same results. k

Is high stabilizer in pool water bad?

High cyanuric acid (stabilizer) levels will give a false Total Alkalinity reading. Generally if you take your cyanuric reading and divide it by 3 and then subtract that from your Total Alkalinity reading you will get a true adjusted reading. Ex.= Cyanuric is 150ppm, T.A. is 100ppm. 150 divided by 3 is 50. Subtract 50 from 100 and your true adjusted T.A. is 50 which is far too low. Add baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to bring the level back up to 100ppm. Try to keep the cyanuric level between 40-60ppm by checking it once a month. Using isocyanurate chlorines will elevate the level over time. When it starts getting too high, switch to a liquid chlorine diet until it comes back down to desired levels. Make sure the Total Alkalinity levels are kept in the proper range to prevent calcium hydroxide leeching of the plaster. If the walls of the pool have a slick feel but the pool does not have algae, it is probably the T.A. is too low.
