i have a 18x36above ground pool. All levels are right with my pool. but it is still a milky cloudy blue color. what can i do i will try anything.thank you

Make sure your filters are in good shape. Typically, they only last 2 - 4 years. If they appear "fuzzy", and the pressure is high, you may need to replace them. Also, there could be a hole somewhere in the pleats that's letting unfiltered water back into the pool. If the problem is not the filters, try using a clarifier (available at Leslie's Pool Supply or other retail pool stores).

Can you shock the pool and add clarifier?

It may kill the algae but the algae needs to be filtered or the pool will remain green and cloudy You need to dissolve the chlorine and pour around the pool then brush the pool in order to not damage your plaster. This will help get the chlorine throughout the pool.

What if your total chlorine is high and your free chlorine is low?

If your total chlorine is high and your free chlorine is low, it means that the chlorine in the water is mostly bound to contaminants and is not available to sanitize the pool effectively. This situation could result from the chlorine being overused or ineffective due to high levels of organic matter. To correct it, you may need to shock the pool to break down the combined chlorine and restore the free chlorine levels.

When should you add shock to your pool?

You should add shock to your pool when the water needs a boost in sanitizing power, typically after heavy use or if the water appears cloudy or has a strong chlorine smell.

We have no free chlorine in the pool how much salt do you need to add?

That depends on the size of your pool and the level of salt your chlorine generator needs to properly function (usually 3200-3400ppm). If you do not have a quality salt test, I recommend bringing a sample of your water to a local pool store to be tested. Bring your chlorine generator's manual with you and they will help you find where it shows how much salt to add. If your pool has been low on chlorine for more than a day or two, or if the water is cloudy or green, you will need to add some liquid chlorine to assist the chlorine generator in clearing it up.
