I imagine the usual ritualistic slaughter, though erecting statues was also common for Greek Gods, an interesting take on the "Trojan Horse" is that it may have been a statue erected in honour of Poseidon who was the god of earthquakes as well as that of the ocean. Had there been an Earthquake which breached the walls of Troy, the grateful invaders might well have erected a statue to their God though the sacrifice of a couple of birds was consiered customary before going on any sea voyage to placate Poseidon in any case.
