It would be better if the water is moving around a bit but it hardly maters.

Can you add muriatic acid while the pool still has water in it and is it safe to swim in it after?

Yes, you are supposed to add it while there is water in the pool. Add with filter running near a return line. Add it slowly and if possible, brush the pool to help mix the acid. You can swim within 30-60 minutes.

Is 7.2 to high for a salt water pool?

pH for a salt water pool is to be between 7.2 & 7.6 ideally. If the reading is lower than 7.2, add baking soda, if the reading is higher than 7.6 add muratic acid.

How do you clean concrete with muriatic acid?

That depends on what you're trying to clean off. Technically, muratic acid removes some of the chemicals that make up the surface of the concete. If the stain is deep you'll need to use a stronger concentration of the muratic acid. If it's just a weak surface stain, you can dilute the acid. The muratic acid will destroy any clothing, especially cotton, that it touches. Even a drop will disolve the cotton where it touches. Concentrated muratic acid that gets in your eyes can cause blindness, so make sure you wear something to protect your eyes. It burns if you get the acid on your skin, so wear gloves and have plenty of water nearby. Beyond that, just put water in a plastic pail then add muratic acid to get to the concentration that you want. I use an automotive wheel cleaning brush to clean with muratic acid, I also wear rubber gloves when I'm using the stronger concentrations. Brush it on, work it a little then rinse it off with water. It takes a small amount of concrete off the surface and changes the appearance of the concrete, but it also removes the stain. For cleaning concrete, I would recommend using a citrus degreaser instead of muriatic acid. It is much more environmentally friendly, and you don't have to be a chemist to use it. You can purchase it at any professional construction material supply store. Available in 1 gallon and 5 gallon. It also smells a lot better than muriatic acid!!

How much muratic acid should you add to a 350 gal hot tub to lower the alkalinity?

You can start by adding 1 cup of muriatic acid to the hot tub, wait for a few hours, then test the pH and alkalinity levels. Repeat the process if needed, making sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety precautions when handling muriatic acid.

How long will it take for my pool to clear it is new it sat for a week no chemicals no pump I added muratic acid shock chlorine and stabilizer at pool stores guidance the green went away but cloudy?

Do you add water to acid or add acid to water?

you add acid to water

How much muratic acid do I add to a 10000 gallon pool?

This will depend upon whether you have a plaster finish or not. First test the water to determine if you, in fact, need to add acid. If the test indicates that you need acid start with small quantities. Maybe one to two cups of acid. You don't have a lot of water to deal with here and so you could bring the water to acidic conditions easily. Wait about 20 min. for the circulation to distribute and test again. If the demand for acid is still there then you did not add enough acid and will need to add more. Continue this until you reach the goal of about 7.6. Test again the next day to see if the pH has stabilized. If so, then that total amount of acid that you added was what the pool demanded at that time. Each time most likely will be different. A vinyl lined pool can usually have a lesser demand for acid. Ken

If one wants to top up a tank of muriatic acid should one first add the water or concentrated acid?

When mixing acid and water, always add the acid to the water, and add it slowly. Never add the water to the acid.

How do you clean pool with muratic acid?

Very carefully. Follow the manufacturers directions. I am guessing you are cleaning calcium deposits on a DE filter. I would assume that you would dilute the acid with clean water (pouring the acid slowly into the water and not water into acid) and pour enough to cover all of the grids. Then soak over night.

How can you remove hard water build-up from an above ground pool liner and will muriatic acid hurt the liner?

I also would like to know if it worked. I have an In ground pool with calcium build up and I'm having problems removing it. If you get an answer please let me know, I have tried the acid it did not work, maybe because I was alittle to afraid, a pool company told me to be very careful and not leave it on to long. In my experience, yes. Muratic acid dissolves hard water build up. However, it will also damage every substance it contacts beyond any repair. Including stainless steel, brass, tile, and glass. Pvc becomes brittle. A vinegar solution may be a better option to try instead of Muratic acid. I live in Alabama the pool store told me to add 2 gallons of muratic acid to remove water mold then I broadcasted calsaum hardner and it cleared up the water no more water mold and I removed the ladder 2 months later and their is stainless steel bolts in the ladder and they were fine!

A swimming pool worker wants the pools pH to be 7.2 she comes by to test the water and finds the pH is 9.2 what should she do to correct this situation?

If the pH is higher than she wants it to be, she gotta add acid. If it too low, add base. :p Apex

High pH levels that constantly have to be lowered with acid in a salt system pool and wondering why my calcium levels continue to grow exponentially?

What is the current Ph? Current alkalinity? How much acid are you adding at one time? How many gallons of water in pool? What type of acid ~ muratic or other? These and more questions need to be addressed for a more intelligent answer. But my guess is that you are not adding enough acid at one time or you need to add and test more frequently. Also, if you have a plastered pool the lime in the cement is demanding more acid to balance the water. Ken
