Often, a fireplace will spew out pieces of burning wood, which will leave burn marks on a carpet. The easiest method to carpet repair in this case would be to cut off the burned fiber. Manicure scissors or a razor blade can be used to snip any burned fiber, however do not cut too deep. Replacing the burned portion of carpet fiber can be placed into a hole that is cut by snipping down to the backing, as a second method of carpet repair. Carpet fibers taken from an area of rug that is not normally seen can be snipped with manicure scissors and replaced in the area that is burned. The fibers should be glued down by dripping a small amount of glue into the hole. Place fibers on top and allow to dry. Frayed edges of a carpet can be trimmed with scissors. For carpeting that is along a seam that joins with another floor, simply replace the carpet bar with a wider piece. To do carpet repair on a seam, run a hot iron across the seam. The adhesive initially used in the carpet laying will soften. With a knife and a yard stick or straight edge, cut across the seam to leave a new, clean edge. Stretch the carpet with a stretch tool that will pull the two pieces of carpeting together. Use seam tape to place the two carpet pieces together, applying the tape under the carpeting. Apply a hot iron and plenty of pressure to the new seam. The hot iron will seal the seam by creating a new stickiness to the adhesive.
