The longer the snorkel the harder it is - presuming you would swim at a greater depth - to draw air through it. A consideration would also be the difficulty of handling an undoubtedly unwieldy tube at longer lengths.
Because without mechanical means of helping to pushing the air, the pressure under even short depths of water render it impossible for a person to breath in or out through it anyways.
Most snorkels are around 12 to 18 inches long, but some can be shorter or longer depending on the brand and design. It's important to choose a snorkel length that feels comfortable for you while swimming and diving.

Snorkel is not a German word, therefore; it has no meaning in German. In English, a snorkel is a tube that swimmers/divers use to breathe underwater. It's part of their diving masks. The English verb to snorkel is the actual act of swimming/diving with the snorkel. To say snorkel in German, the verb is schnorcheln, and the noun is der Schnorchel.
snorkel gear
That is the correct spelling of "snorkeler", one who shallow dives with a breathing tube (snorkel).
It doesn't have to have a snorkel to bring in air for the diesel engines, and doesn't have to come back to port so often to refuel. A nuclear submarine's deployment is limited by food supplies rather than by fuel.
