As with any firearm, it is not possible to accurately appraise a gun without seeing it. Condition, and original configuration will determine value. Other factors such as rarity of caliber or guage and higher grades have significant impact on value. Recommend that you see a local gun dealer for an appraisal. You can also do your own investigation by looking at other models being sold that are in the same condition as yours. Try the gunbroker.com or a periodical called "The Gun List" You can also reference the Blue Book of Gun Values which can be purchased on line at various retailers.
The Challenger II has an all steel frame and the Challenger III has an alloy frame; I don't know what the alloy is.
No,not that I am aware of. Browning makes a Challenger mark III, but that is a .22 lr pistol. Browning also makes the Hi-Power which is chambered for 9mm Luger.
The Buckmark is a newer version of the same design. Challengers came in 3 models or versions (I, II, III), each being made after the former was discontinued. The Challenger III was very very close to the current Buckmark design, with the aluminum frame in common with the Buckmark. Challenger I and II both had steel frames.
"The Challenger II series .22 Caliber Pistol was introduced in 1976 and ceased production in 1982. The Challenger II evolved into the Challenger III in 1983." from: http://www.browning.com/customerservice/dategun/detail.asp?id=31

Browning.com has a sn function under customer service. Go to "Dating your firearm" on their site. Your Browning Challenger was made in 1966. You can go to Browning as suggested above to look all this up, but SN's were followed by a U denoting Challenger Pistol and a single digit from '62 to '68, then a two digit year was listed from 69 to 75, when they then started the Challenger II and III series. Those were denoted by the prefix 655 and a two letter code denoting the year. You have to go to the Browning site to look those up.

==Value of a Browning .22== Much of the value of your .22 Browning depends on its condition, the grade (I, II, or III), and its place of manufacture. In 1968, I believe most were still being made in Belgium. Try one of the arms auction sites on line (such as: Gunbroker.com) and check with the experts on their forums. Or, you can always go to a gun dealer and have it appraised. Good luck.
