simple wipe down with a damp cloth should be fine. Then oil the moving parts with RWS, Gamo or Crosman Pellgun oil. wipe down the rifle with a slightly oily cloth to keep the rust away. Nev Never use Firearms products in an Air gun it will ruin the seals the same goes for any other oil product beyond what is listed above.
I would suggest an AirSoft BB gun. Not a Paintball or steel BB gun. Unless you have someone who is familiar with firearms then I would get him a Daisy Buck BB rifle and an adult to teach him the respect and rules of handling the rifle. The "Daisy Buck" is designed as a starter BB rifle for youngsters.
