The SKS is designed to fire the 7.62x39mm cartridge, not the 7.62x54mmR. Attempting to shoot 7.62x54R ammunition from an SKS could cause serious damage to the rifle and pose significant safety risks to the shooter. It's crucial to use only the appropriate ammunition specified for the firearm to ensure safe and reliable operation.

No. The SKS fires a 7.62x39 cartridge, but actually uses a .311 bullet. The 7.62 x51 is too long for the SKS action, the chamber of a SKS is too short for the cartridge, the power of the 51 is too high for the SKS action, and the bullet of the 7.62x51 is actually .308, not .311. Does not match up in any way.

The EFFECTIVE range is about 400 meters. If fired at an optimal angle of about 30 degrees of elevation, it will travel about 3123 yards or about 1.77 miles, but it will not be accurate.
All of the fixed ten round mags are cross compatible, but cannot be used in the SKS-M or SKS-D, both of which use a detachable AK magazine.

Yes, you can shoot a mountain lion with an SKS, as it is a firearm capable of taking down large game. However, it’s essential to check local laws and regulations regarding hunting and the use of firearms, as well as to ensure that you are following ethical hunting practices. Additionally, consider the safety of the surrounding area and the potential impact on the mountain lion population. Always prioritize responsible wildlife management and conservation.

The M1 Garand shoots the 30 ot 6, so if you want stopping power its better. The SKS uses the 7.62x39, also has great stopping power, but the SKS is way cheaper. Personally i like the SKS better.
