Not recommended. Unlike a revolver, a .357 Magnum rifle will have a chamber measured out to achieve headspace with the .357 Magnum cartridge. When loaded with a .38 Special cartridge, proper headspace will not be achieved, and the potential for a catastrophic failure of the firearm - to the point even where it may cause serious injury or death to the firer - is greatly increased.

Is 357 sig the same as 357 mag except auto?

No. They both use a different diameter bullet and the case is different. The .357 Sig case is a bottle-necked version of the .40 S&W case. The .357 mag is a longer version of the .38 Special.

Is a 357 mag a 38 caliber?

Well, yes and no. Both the .357 Magnum and the earlier .38 Special catridge both use a bullet that is .357 inches in diameter. The .38 Special in not a TRUE .38 caliber cartridge.

Can 38 special ammo be use in a model 66-1 357 mag?

Yes. All .357 S&W Magnum firearms are capable of firing .38 Special ammunition. The case of the .357 is just slightly longer.

Can you shoot 357 mag rounds in a 38 pistol?

No. However, .38 Special ammo CAN be safely fired in a .357 Magnum firearm. Both cartridges use a bullet that is .357 in diameter- but the .357 magnum is longer, and more powerful.

Can a 44 magnum rifle use 44 special ammo?

Can I use 38 auto plus p ammo in a model 28 357 mag?

No. You can fire .38 Special (and .38 Special +P) in any .357 Magnum firearm, not .38 Auto. Do not attempt the reverse (firing .357 Magnum in a .38 Special firearm); the results will be disastrous. The .38 Auto does not have a rim large enough to hold it in a revolver's chamber, and the bullet is most likely not the correct diameter.

Can you use 38 special ammo in a 357 sig 239 handgun?

No. 357 SIG and 357 Magnum are two very different cartridges. You can use .38 Special in a .357 magnum gun, but not 357 SIG Adding to the above, the compatibility of .38 Special and .357 Magnum applies only to revolvers. You cannot cycle .38 Special in a magazine fed .357 Magnum lever action or semi automatic.

Can you use 38 or 38 special bullet in a rifle?

To the best of my knowledge, no manufacturer has even made a .38 Special rifle, so no. .38 Special can be used in .357 Magnum revolvers, but that's because revolvers don't have a headspaced chamber - this cannot be done in firearms which have a headspaced chamber (as rifles typically do).

What if your owners manual says use only 38 plus p ammo in your s and w model 642 it does not say 38 specials are ok it mentions 38 plus p and 38 special for a 357 mag is this just an over sight?

You can use 38 special.

Can you use a 270 win mag in a rifle that is ment to be used with a 270 WCF?

No

Can you use 38special bullets with a 357 revolver?

Yes, but please use the correct term- cartridges. Not bullets. A .38 Special is basically a .357 Short, and you can safely shoot .38 Special in a .357 magnum. The opposite is NOT true.
