Modern saws (last 20 years or so) have the year stamped right next to the serial number. The serial number plate can be anywhere, they move it every few years. The hardest one to spot is right behind the vertical part of the handle bar on the right side of the saw. Older saws are a little harder. the first digit of the serial number is the LAST digit of the year. The next two digits indicate the week it was made (01-52). So a 50734567 was made in the 7th week of 1985 or 1995. Around 1995 is when they started to put the whole 4 digit year on the plate. I havent figured out how they did it in the 60's and 70's.
