Gunpowder has changed many aspects of life.

The most obvious one is that of the military. The first armies to have gunpowder had a huge advantage over their enemies. They were able to damage the enemy without being in range of them. Of course, as more and more armies had the use of guns and cannons, so the advantage was wiped out. It still makes the military more efficient and allows them to inflict more damage than without.

Civilian uses tend to be more benign. Construction of canals, tunnels and similar large scale works was made easier with explosives used to break hard rocks and to dig holes that would otherwise take many days or weeks.

Similarly, mining was transformed from a very labor intensive task to one in which large rocks could be removed from quarries and mines with ease.
