You probably put the wrong shell size in the chamber.....I did the same thing when I got mine. There is a release on the inside of the chamber....compress it with the metal chamber cover also compressed and the shell will pop out

No. These were made in Japan and imported by the old Ithaca Gun Company between 1972 and 1978.
