IF IT HAS A SERIAL NUMBER YOU SHOULD FIND IT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RECEIVER, UNDER THE FINGER LEVER, AROUND THE TANG AREA. COULD BE IN ONE OF A FEW DIFFERENT AREAS, BUT ALWAYS ON THE RECEIVER. OLDER MODELS MAY NOT HAVE IT. IF IT HAS A SERIAL NUMBER YOU SHOULD FIND IT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RECEIVER, UNDER THE FINGER LEVER, AROUND THE TANG AREA. Look under the lever of your Marlin rifle.
Look on the barrel and receiver.
To determine the age of your Marlin Golden 39A, you'll need to check the serial number, which is typically found on the underside of the receiver. Marlin's manufacturing dates can be traced through their serial number charts, which correspond to production years. If you have access to the serial number, you can look it up online or consult a Marlin firearms guide for more precise dating.
The serial number should be on the lower tang, under the lever. Open the lever and look where it meets the tang.
Look at the lower forward receiver, the lower tang,or upper tang.

I have the same number on my 336-RC 35 REM, so I'm thinking that it is not the serial number. That number was stamped on the left side of the rifle just above the trigger. I have not been able to find any other numbers that look like a serial number.
To establish the date of a Marlin 1894 CS lever rifle, you can check the serial number, which is typically located on the bottom of the receiver. Marlin's production records indicate that the rifle's serial numbers can help you determine the year it was manufactured. Additionally, you can consult Marlin's serial number lists or reference books that document the production years based on these numbers. It's also beneficial to look for specific features or markings that may correspond to certain production periods.

Look on the barrel. It should be marked. If you can't read it, take it to a gunsmith for a chamber cast. Generally, you can't tell the caliber form the serial number. If you had provided more of a description (bolt, pump, lever) maybe someone would be able to find it in the book written by Brophy on Marlin.
