SLIDE THE SLIDE BACK TILL THE SLIDE RELEASE IS IN THE NOTCH IN THE SIDE PUSH RELEASE THROUGH THE FRAME AND SLIDE THE SLIDE FORWARD OFF THE FRAME THEN TURN THE BARREL NUT AND REMOVE THE RECOIL SPRING AND GUIDE THEN THE BARREL WILL SLIDE OUT OF THE SLIDE
You have to remove the barrel. Take the stock off and you will see the nut that holds a "U" clip in place. The clipp holds the barrell. Remove clip, slide barrel out, then the bolt will also slide out.
Make sure the weapon is unloaded, remove the magazine and then make sure the safety is in the off position. Pull the slide to the rear about 1 inch until the slide stop is below the notch in the slide. Hold the slide in that position and push the slide stop pin from right to left and remove the pin. Let the slide move forward and off the frame. At this point, you have access to the recoil spring and barrel. You can remove the recoil spring, guide rod and barrel at this point.
The ignition barrel can be removed by removing the retaining ring. The barrel will slide out. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the barrel.
To field strip a Smith & Wesson 639, first ensure the firearm is unloaded. Remove the magazine and pull the slide back slightly to align the takedown lever with the notch in the slide, then rotate the takedown lever down. With the lever down, pull the slide off the frame while holding the trigger slightly to release tension. Finally, remove the recoil spring and barrel from the slide for further cleaning or maintenance.
To disassemble a Smith and Wesson Model 411 .40 caliber handgun, first ensure the firearm is unloaded and the magazine is removed. Then, pull the slide back slightly and push the takedown lever located on the left side of the frame. Once the takedown lever is rotated, release the slide and pull it forward off the frame. Finally, remove the recoil spring and barrel from the slide to complete the disassembly process. Remember to follow all safety precautions and refer to the manufacturer's manual for detailed instructions.
To break down a Smith & Wesson C59, first ensure the firearm is unloaded. Remove the magazine and pull the slide back to visually inspect the chamber. Then, locate the slide stop lever, push it down, and pull the slide forward off the frame. Finally, you can separate the recoil spring and barrel from the slide for further disassembly. Always refer to the manufacturer’s manual for specific instructions and safety precautions.
Pull the slide back until the notch on the slide closest to the muzzle is over top of the slide-lock pin. While holding the slide back, push the slide-lock pin out (push from the right hand side of the gun). Slowly allow the slide to go forward. Release the hammer gently. Pull the slide towards the muzzle and it should slide right off. Remove the guide rod and recoil spring from the underside of the slide. Then twist the barrel bushing at the muzzle and pull it out so that the barrel can move. Pull the barrel out from the underside of the slide. This is the least amount of disassembly needed for a proper cleaning. You will want to clean the barrel, inside and out, as well as the underside of the slide, and any other parts inside that may have dirt, oil, residue or other fowling. Re-oil the weapon and assemble using the steps above in reverse.
Ask a gunsmith for help or contact S&W for an owner's manual. You can also download one from their website.
Remove the magazine and clear the chamber. Make sure the gun is NOT loaded. Set the safety in the up "fire" position. Pull the slide back just enough so the slide catch notch in the bottom left side of the slide is even with the front of the slide catch. If you pull the slide back far enough to engage the slide catch you have gone too far. When the notch in the slide is over the pin of the slide catch push on the pin from the right side of the frame. The button like end of the pin is just above the trigger on the right side of the frame. Push in this "button" you may need something like a pen if you cant push it with you finger. Fully remove the pin from the frame. Pull the slide forward out of the frame. Carefully remove the recoil spring and guide. Rotate the barrel bushing to the left and remove from the slide. Pull the barrel up and out of the slide. This is the standard field strip for this gun. Refer to a gun smith for further disassembling.
